The cartridge filter is one of the most popular water treatment solutions. They work the same as an air filter in a car. Dirty water passes through a cartridge made up of panels of synthetic or sometimes plant fibers that will retain the impurities it contains and comes out clean. It’s a very simple process. The popularity of this filtration type is due to its very discrete functioning next to your pool. In fact, the space a cartridge filter requires is more limited in comparison with a sand filter that contains 150 or 250kg of sand. The fewer adjustments for your pool equipment you have to make, the more space you have for your swimming and poolside environment area. These pool filters are also more efficient because they are much easier to maintain. Basically, all you have to do is remove the cartridge from the filter housing and spray it with water. This means no wastage of expensive pool chemicals. Over time, the cartridge will need to be replaced, but they generally last for 2 to 5 years. Cartridge filters can sift particles as small as 10 to 20 microns in size. The main drawback of choosing a cartridge filter is the cost of replacement cartridges. On the other hand, cleaning these filters is much faster than cleaning a sand filter which must be backwashed regularly. We recommend you to provide the necessary refills early in the season to avoid being out of stock in high swimming season that might force you to opt for lower quality products.
To extend the lifetime of consumables, we recommend using a system of pre-filter (as a surface skimmer with a basket for example) which will retain the larger debris and relieve your filter. A regular cleaning is indispensable. Warning: This filter type is not compatible with calcareous pool water. In case of hard pool water, a filter-pump combo is preferred.
