Technical abnormalities

When you own a swimming pool, you should always expect some technical anomalies, sometimes easy to solve and sometimes difficult requiring the assistance of a professional.  In this article, we will see the different technical problems and the solutions adapted to each of them.

a/ Air bubbles interfere with your filtration system

Causes: Poor air circulation often causes these air bubbles.

Possible solutions: 1. gently open the cover of the pump's prefilter. 2. Drain the air from the filter with the bleed screw. 3. Drain the air from the chemical dispenser. 4. Open the bottom bung valve.

b/ The pump does not work any more

Causes: Air in the suction system. The brush head is on the surface. The quantity of water in the pump is insufficient.

Possible solutions: 1. Leave the prefilter of the filter pump ajar. 2. Drain the air from the filter. 3. Add the necessary amount of water to the skimmer.

c/ The filtration system does not work.

Causes: Manual or automatic operation not activated. A problem with the fuse. Power may be cut off.

Solutions suggested:  1. Activate the "on" button correctly.  2. Check the time at which the unit turns on automatically. 3. Replace the defective fuse. 4. Check the electrical circuit between the system and the circuit breaker.

d/ Switch the filter pump back on.

Causes: Before re-priming the filter pump, the condition of the skimmer baskets and the pump prefilter must be checked.

Proposed solutions:   1. Valves and pump off.   2. Pass the water through the pump prefilter to the bung piping, then close the prefilter properly   3. Leave the bottom and discharge valves ajar   4. Activate the pump and carefully open the valves   5. Open the skimmer and the brush socket gradually.

Problems with blockage, heating or noise at the filter pump.

Causes: Check the condition of the bearings. A neutral element could block the pump. The suction system is clogged.

Solutions suggested:  1. Remove the waste clogging the bottom drain, skimmer baskets and prefilter from the filter pump.  2. Clean the turbine chamber. 3. Replace the bearings.

f/ Projector does not project light

Causes: The switch is not activated. The fuse is defective. Power failure.

Proposed solutions:  1. Activate the on button.  2. Replace the fuse.  3. Make sure that power is supplied from the circuit breaker to the projector.

g/ Debris comes out when the vacuum sweeper is cleaning the pool.

Causes: The filter is unable to remove the debris because it is too fine.

Suggested solutions:  1. Equip the filter with its drain valve before vacuuming   2. Boost the action of the filter media by improving the filtration fineness with a flocculant.

h/ Filter pressure

Causes: Problem with the filter media

Proposed solutions : 1. Clean the filter media and the cartridge.

i/ No pressure in the filter

Causes: Filtration doesn't work. The pump is not activated. Pump clogged. Suction valve closed.

Suggested solutions: 1.Open the filter valve and activate the filter   2. The pool water must be at the right level.  Check the air intakes of the pump's prefilter. 3. Remove clogging from the pump's prefilter. 4. Open the skimmer valve and the bottom drain.

j/ Dirty water in the delivery nozzles

Causes: The filter is poorly cleaned. Debris in the hydraulic system.

Suggested solutions :  1. Clean the filter media by backwashing, followed by a thorough rinse if there is a cartridge.  2. Make a flocculation if necessary.

k/ Pump defusing in the middle of a cleaning session.

Causes: Several factors are at the root of this problem.

Proposed Solutions:  1. Check the location of the vacuum cleaner: it must not be on the surface or outside the pool. 2. Check the floating hose and the broom: they must not be blocked or pinched by anything. 3. Open the bottom drain to ensure better suction. The broom must be at the bottom of the pool. 4. Remove the air bubbles in the floating hose before connecting it to the broom socket. Proceed by slow vertical immersion or by facing the discharge nozzle.

l/ Damaged suction system

Causes: Filter, suction system and bottom drain clogged or filled with waste. (Leaves, rubbish, etc.).

Proposed solutions: 1. Wash and remove clogged filter, skimmer and pump prefilter.

m/ Discharge does not work.

Causes: Clogging in the filter. The valve is not open.

Proposed solutions: 1. Wash the filter and check the pump impeller chamber.

n/ The desired filter hours are out of range.

Causes: A power outage has shifted the time slots.

Proposed solutions: 1. Reset the clock to its normal rhythm.

o/ The filter pressure gauge is not working properly.

Causes: The air got in. The water level in the pool is too low. The closing of the water suction is not correct.

Proposed solutions: 1. Close the pump prefilter correctly. 2. Change the water level. 3. Change the opening of the suction valves.

p/ The motor makes a humming noise but does not run.

Causes: Turbine blockage

Proposed solutions: 1. Remove the prefilter basket from the pump and remove any waste that is clogging the impeller. 2. Remove the rear cover and check the cooling propeller.

q/ After a few minutes of operation, the engine suddenly stops running.

Causes: Moisture problem in the engine and its impermeability. The winding is damaged. The safety of the motor is not ensured.

Proposed solutions: 1. Dry and rewind the motor. 2. Replace the stuffing box and packing. 3 . Replace the amps slider at the right level.

r/ The motor stops when starting.

Causes: Problem with winding and/or connections.

Proposed solutions: 1. Proceed to rewind the motor. 2. Repair the electrical connection.

s/ The motor is working properly but is making noise.

Causes: Damage to the ball bearing.

Proposed solutions: 1.  Replace the bearing.

t/Water leakage between the motor and the pump prefilter while the motor is operating normally.

Causes: Impermeability problem in the mechanical seal and pump shaft.

Proposed solutions: 1. make a modification to the mechanical seal and its rotor shaft.

u/ No sign on the motor.

Causes: The power button is not activated. The power does not come on. Damage to fuse, clock or contactor (green-red button).

Proposed solutions: 1. ensure the power supply from the circuit breaker to the motor. 2. Change the start time or switch to manual operation. 3. Change the start time or switch to manual operation. 4. Press the red button. 5. Replace the defective fuse.
