Whether for a replacement or a construction, it is necessary first of all to understand how a filtration system works in order to have the best adapted and the most efficient equipment. Choosing the right equipment is important. It requires a good balance between the volume of water in the pool, the power of the filter pump, and the filter flow. Here is how a pool filtration works:

The pool with one or more skimmers aspire dirt and insects with the help of a pump. The pump is the heart of the entire filtration system. This electric pump motor, propels the water from the pool to the filter that is responsible for cleaning it. Most impurities are retained by this filter, it is considered the lung of your pool. The water passed through the filter media is discharged from its particles and returns back into the pool through the discharge nozzles, almost clean. It is important to have the water filtered, cleaned and treated. This guarantees a healthy and quality swimming season, of course this type of treatment must be associated with a chemical treatment, because it is essential to swim in a disinfected and crystalline water for the greatest pleasure and safety of all swimmers. How to choose a pump? It is important to calculate the power and the flow rate of the pump in order to avoid pressure drops in the piping system. These parameters must take into account the volume of the pool and the distance to the technical room. A filter pump that is too powerful or not powerful enough can have a negative effect on the quality of the water. How to choose the filter? The filter must have a flow rate sufficient to treat the entire volume of the pool and must also be adapted to the flow rate and the power of the filtration pump. There are several types of filters, cartridge, diatom and sand. The diatom filters are composed of filter panels on which the diatom is attached. The diatom used as a filter medium, allows to obtain a fineness of filtration of the order of 5 microns! Thanks to this fineness of filtration the physical treatment is significantly improved and the treatment products become more effective! Cartridge filters are composed of several cells, similar to an accordion positioned around an axis. The cartridge filtration system has the advantage of having a filtration fineness of between 15 and 20 microns. The cartridges are cleaned easily without much efforts. The cartridges must be changed regularly to maintain optimum performance. The cartridge filtration system is not necessarily compatible with all modes of chemical treatments. Finally, we will discuss the sand filters that remain the most widespread filtration equipment. Sand filters are technically simple and therefore easy to use and maintain. They are equipped with 4 to 6 positions multi-port valves that can be positioned laterally to the filter (side) or on top of the filter (top). The sand filter can contain different kinds of filter media. You can opt for a sand load composed of two granulometry, which will provide a filtration fineness of about 50 microns and will have a lifetime of 5 to 6 years maximum, or opt for a charge composed of glass grains specially designed to filter the water of a pool. This filtering glass retains more bacteria and allows a faster counter wash with the advantage of saving water during this washing operation. In addition, the filter glass has a longer life and efficiency than sand because it can be operational for 15 years. To conclude, we will discuss the new filter medium, which has been a sensation for only a few years, and which brings new solutions in the market of water filtration. These are filter balls! This new filter medium composed of polyester balls which allows a record filtration fineness of 1.5 microns! It is very easy to use because only 700 gr of polyester balls replace 25 kg of sand or glass! Farewell the chore of transport and replacement of the filter load! Changing the filter media becomes child's play without special tools, filter balls can be cleaned with a washing machine to maintain the filtration efficiency. Let's not forget the electric box of filtration without which the filtration pump as well as the projectors could not function in order to make a complete turn of the necessary equipment for the good functioning of a filtration system. This pool filtration box will have to be adapted to the configuration of a technical room and the power of a pump.
