What are the essential elements for filtration?

Principle of filtration

Beyond the sterilization called "chemical" action, there is also the filtration called "mechanical" sieving action. The two are complementary in order to obtain and maintain good water quality. The process takes place as follows: the water is absorbed by the skimmers and the bottom drain, then goes to the pump's prefilter, which then sends it back to the filter. It is in the filter that it is cleaned before being returned to the pool via the discharge nozzles. An electrical box allows to control and regulate all this operation and its duration. The duration of filtration depends on the region where the pool is located, the seasons, the weather and the number of people using the pool.

It is very easy to calculate the daily filtration time: Duration = water temperature divided by 2. If the water temperature is 28° for example, the filtration time will be 14 hours. The filtration operation must be done during the day to avoid the rapid formation of algae.

The role of the filtration pump

The filtration pump is the element that will absorb the water via its suction circuit (skimmer, bottom drain, brush plug) in order to send it to the filter to be purified of all dirt, then to the pool via the delivery system. The power of the filtration pump varies according to the volume of water. There are pumps with higher power but which practically reduce electricity consumption, such as variable speed pumps which provide savings of up to 75%.

What's the filter box?

The filtration box is a device equipped with a clock to control the filtration and the hours during which it will run. It is also equipped with a transformer useful for lighting the pool.

REMINDER° According to the law in force, the earth leakage circuit breaker 30MA must be placed on the supply side. The intervention of a professional is compulsory to guarantee this electrical installation.

And the filter?

The filter is considered to be the lung of your pond, whose role is to purify the water and suck up as much dirt as possible. 4 filter systems are available:

a/ Sand filter: Easy to use and maintain, it is the most widely used, offering a filtration fineness of between 40 and 50 microns that you can rectify using flocculation or filter media.

b/ Cartridge filter: distinguished by its compact size and water-saving capacity. It provides a filtration fineness of 20 to 25 microns.

c/ Element filter: highly appreciated for its water saving and ease of maintenance. Its filtration fineness is between 20 and 25 microns.

d/ Diatomaceous earth filter is the most efficient category of filter with a filtration fineness of 3 to 5 microns. This quality reduces the use of chemical products and saves a lot of money. A little difficult to clean, this filter works with a recovery tank.

Clean the filter when you notice that the pressure on the manometer is 400g higher than normal pressure.

It is strictly forbidden to close or turn the filter valve when the pump is running.

It is preferable to filter during the day and not at night. The filtration time must be respected in order not to generate algae by photosynthesis.
